5 Stars What a great GPS
Very pleased in every area. I had a Garmin before, but like the Tom Tom much better. Excellent product support, and map support as well.
4 Stars good GPS
This is a good GPS the only 2 problems I have had with it is 1) it doesn’t seem to hold a charge for all that long, maybe a couple of hours. 2) Tomtom apparently no longer allows you to update the map on a refurbished unit, and it costs $80-$100 to get a map update.
5 Stars Replacement Unit
This unit was shipped to me as a replacement for a reconditioned unit we purchased for a cross country trip. The first one failed about three days from home, and Amazon was great about providing customer service. They replaced the first unit, and handled it so quickly that we were barely without the use of a GPS navigation device.
3 Stars Nice for the price…but cell phone navigator is better
PRO: Great price, great wide screen, great volume, has text to speech function, finds GPS signal fast; great battery life; comes with car charger, windshield mount; adequate for finding nearby gas stations or other areas of interest.
CONS: Wrong/non-existent names of highway entrance/exit ramps; terrible pronunciation (’Ill-in-nwah’ for Illinois); annoying repetition of “keep right” or “keep left” on highways despite an upcoming, opposite direction move; very late (if any) announcement of next approaching traffic direction (tells you to turn just as you pass your exit); Tom Tom charges $9.95/quarter for map updates.
I’ve had this TomTOm ONE XL-S for a couple of months now and I’m pretty sure while it will *eventually* help me find where I’m going, I don’t have the confidence that I will get there quickly and with the fewest u-turns because of missed roads/exits/turns.
The opposite has been true with my cell phone navigator. I get much better navigation on ALL counts from my Verizon VZ navigator (plus real time traffic updates). So while I’m saving the 9.99 a month the VZ navigator service would cost, the limitations of the Tom Tom navigation is making me second guess my purchase.
BOTTOM LINE: OK unit if you don’t want to spend to much; barely adequate big city navigation.

The TomTom arrived quickly and has worked excellently since I got it. I am amazed that it will easily lock on to the satellites inside our house, my handheld gps doesn’t do that. If they had topo maps available and I could save waypoints on it I would get rid of my current handheld gps and use the TomTom! Great product!
