4 Stars Great picture, but not for the hard of hearing!
I just got this unit last week. It’s light, it’s sleek, its picture is fantastic, but it’s sound is not always as loud as you might like. Most channels are fine, but some, even when the volume is set to max, are too soft. I’m looking for an inexpensive sound bar to augment the unit’s small speakers. If you have a smaller room, say 10 x 12, this will be great. But if you have a larger room, 15 x 15 or more, or are in a noisy house, you may be disappointed. I hope Toshiba is listening!!
2 Stars sound & sensitivity problems
Bought two flat panel HDTVs, this one and a Vizio, The Vizio is superb. This set only ranks as average or slightly below. If you have any slight hearing problem, you will not get enough sound level out of this set on a digital channel to be able to hear it clearly. Had to add Radio Shack’s amplified speakers plugged into the headphone jack of the TV in order to correct this problem. The tuner is not anywhere near as sensitive as it should be. The Vizio pulled in 19 stations with the antenna, whereas this set only received 15. In a 22″ set, there are not a lot of choices when you desire a built-in DVD player. This set needs to be improved.
4 Stars First Flat Screen TV, and I am very happy.
It was a challenge to get this TV, my first unit was stolen while en route from UPS, Amazon was very good with customer service, and ended up purchasing the second unit from an Amazon Marketplace seller who shipped FedEx. It took a week to ship, but finally received the TV about 2 weeks ago. First, I have never owned a flat screen, I replaced a 13 inch CRT with Mono sound, so my viewing experience has improved tremendously.
The only reason I couldn’t give the TV five stars was that the sound is weak at times, but it seems to be dependent on the TV program or DVD that you are watching. It could be louder, but as long as you aren’t trying to obtain theater style sound for action films, the lack of loudness doesn’t appear to be a huge issue. Picture quality is great, using the DVD player is easy, and the remote is easy as well, and there is a previous channel button now, which was a gripe that some reviewers had about Toshiba’s previous model, the 505. Order with confidence!
5 Stars There’s a new favorite TV in our house
Setup was so easy I didn’t bother cracking the manual. Picture is great and channel-changing is much faster than on a similar Sharp I got 2 years ago for twice the price.
3 Stars Poor sound, but good quality video.
I just purchased this tv/dvd player for the bedroom. The set allows me to program it to DirectV’s remote (wonderful!), it has a full compliment of picture settings for my preferred viewing, (no red people) and the manual is easy to understand.
However, the sound is very poor. I have it up as far as it will adjust to and it still can’t be heard well from more than 6 feet. I may have to return it to the store. However, this seems to be a problem with most small LCD TV’s.
I haven’t tried a DVD yet, but expect the sound to be even more of a problem because most DVD’s have to be amplified even higher than the TV sounds.
I had purchased a 22″ Curtis with a DVD player and it was a mess. I could not ajust the color or the tint, the manual only told the steps in the menus, but not what each was for and the picture quality was only fair. I could not program it to the DirectV remote at all. Their customer service said it was not possible. However, the sound was great! I guess you can’t have it all.
