Panasonic SC PT660 5 DVD Home Theater System

Panasonic SC PT660 5 DVD Home Theater System

One of the exceptionally fine aspects of HDTV is that most programs are broadcast with a 5.1 channel surround soundtrack. Panasonic SC-PT660 is an easy way to enjoy it. With the Wireless Kit for Rear Speakers (SH-FX67 sold separately), no cables mean no clutter. You can also expand your music listening into three additional rooms with the wireless multi-room speaker kit (SH-FX85 sold separately). The front pair and center speakers are simply wired to the receiver that also has a DVD changer and an AM/FM radio. With 1000 watts of RMS power, home-theater is fully realized. Sit back and enjoy.

The built-in Universal Dock for iPod gives you a great new way to enjoy music and (composite) video. Just slip your iPod into the cradle and enjoy. The dock charges your iPod, allows you to use the home theater remote to control the iPod, has on-screen audio menus, and also plays back iPod video. Got a Panasonic Viera TV? VIERA Link displays a menu on the TV screen, making it easier to operate your connected home theater system. Whatever HDTV you own, it’s time to upgrade your sound and the Panasonic SC-PT660 is the best way to start it up. 4 Stars good unit for my pan tv
I bought this refurb thru Amazon from Good As New Electronics.

Happy with price and service from GANE.

Unit works great and makes TV listening much better for my old ears.

Everything has worked great for a month until a few days ago, when the Viera link stopped fully working. After a couple of hours on the phone with tech service at Panasonic, reseting both the TV and HT a few times, it turned out to be the HDMI cable which had worked fine until now. Fortunately I had a couple of extras. One of three fit tighter than the other two–and worked again. All three HDMI cables were from eForcity, so go figure.

The cables for the rear surround were too short and I needed another 15 feet–what a stupid design! I did figure out how to open the speakers which have terminal lugs inside, and the pins in the molex connectors going into the main unit can be removed. but I opted to just cut the wires to the rear surround speakers and add 18 feet of 22awg speaker wire using common butt splices–works great. I don’t think I would have liked the wireless version because of the additional pwoere requirement and potential interference problems.

I think the unit is well worth the price as a refurb, but gave it a 4 because of the rear speaker wire length (25′) and lack of paint on one side of the subwoofer. I think more inputs like digital coax would be nice too.

I have not had any problems with the DVD player mechanism, but I do treat it with care because it seems a bit complex and delicate, but okay if you pay attention.

4 Stars Custom speaker connections and pre-wired
I use the Panny SC-PT660 in my family room. Good features, sound, and easy to setup. Movies, TV and SAT radio for family – not heavy duty use. Works great with my Panny Viera Plasma. One issue, I failed to notice that the speakers have custome “clip-in” connections to the receiver and the speakers are “pre-wired”. My family room is pre-wired with standard speaker wires run behind the walls and ceiling. Had to splice the Panny wires for the rear surround sound speakers. I expected the speakers to accept the bare ends of the pre-run speaker wires.

2 Stars The system ate my 5 DvDs
I bought the Panasonic SC-PT660 5 DVD Home Theater System in Jan 2009. The wires for the surround speakers were too short. The woofer speaker is not finished on the left side. The instructions for operating the system were vague and complicated at the same time. The loading cassette which is built in the system and hold one to five dvds or cd all open at the same time. If you’re not using this set in a well-lit place you can have loading problems. For instance if you need to exchange a dvd in tray # 3, the cassette opens trays # 3, 4, 5, making the trays not needed for changing a single dvd or cd exchange, open and close needlessly. This will surely wear this mechanism out sooner.

After just two months of regular use the cassette changer jammed and capturing 5 dvds, three of them rentals. I went through the manual to try to clear it with no luck. I then called the 800 # listed on the manual and spoke to and operator from the Philippines who courteously walked me the through clearing procedure again with no luck. He then directed me to the nearest authorized Panasonic repair shop about 8 miles from my home. The technician at the shop immediately recognized the problem as the exchange system being out of alignment. He admitted repairing many of the same models with same problem. I was grateful that he not only retrieved the 5 dvds but also was able to repair the alignment. I was also grateful that Panasonic stood by their product. The Panasonic was still under warranty so the repairs were free. Something Samsung was unable to do when their home theater carasoule system would lockup when playing certain dvds, or simply wouldn’t even load them. I was so frustrated with the Samsung I put it out with the trash.

While Panasonic has always enjoyed a great reputation, I gave this system two stars because if it was just one or two players that had this problem, I would’ve said it was just my bad luck. However, for so many players to have this same “out of alignment” problem, this has to be a manufactures defect. In addition the skimping on the length of the surround speaker wires, the unfinished woofer speaker and the complicated operating instructions for the remote control. Last but not unimportant, the redundant procedure for loading and exchanging dvds & cds is a sure way to wear out the system’s mechanics. Sadly this set was obviously contracted out to the lowest manufacture bidder.

When this system was first marketed, it sold for about $400, I paid $240 with the shipping included. I figured the dealers were making room for the new BlueRay sets that were coming out and were selling them at cost. But knowing that this system may well eat my dvds (5 at a time) is a little troubling. Other than that the system plays the dvds well and the sound is okay, I don’t play cds on it. You know the old saying “Buyer Beware”

5 Stars Panasonic SC-PT660 5 DVD Home Theater System
Wonderful, worked just as expected, easy to hook up. Only wish I had gone wireless.

5 Stars Great Purchase!
I’m really impressed with the quality of sound that this system provides. Although we have a small home, it still makes the movie feel as if you’re right there in the middle of it all!

My brother spent big bucks on a Bose home theater system, and he claims my Panasonic home theater in a box is far superior!

I was a bit skeptical about the sound quality on the CD setting, as I had read other reviews. However, I would have to say that it does a great job with these, too!

4 Stars Great
Great sound system. We recently purchased one of the new LED Samsung TV’s. This works great with it. The bass is a bit loud, so we had to go into the menu and change that. Other than that, it’s a great DVD player as well. I don’t think anything can get any higher quality than this.

5 Stars Great Savings for the best product
I had just purchased the 52″ SAMSUNG Plasma Flatscreen and looked at the Samsung Home Theater sound bar at Best Buy ($499.00 on sale)very pricey and comparison of other bar’s there is no comparison in the sound of the Samsung. When I installed my Flatscreen the sound was tinny, TV sound. Back to Best Buy the price on the Home Theater sound bar was back at the $699 original price, but now I was convinced I needed it-inflation. I Googled the Home Theater Sound Bar and saw that Amazon had 2 for sale open box. I was not sure that I should, but I bought the sound bar system after reviewing the return policy. 3 days later I got the bar. ( I don’t know was “open box” It was perfectly packaged.) I mounted it on the wall and using the optical cord and the HDMI cords all purchased from AMAZON I think now I had spent $12 on three cords.(great cords-gold plated). It worked the first time and I haven’t looked back it has almost been a month. The Sound is very good. the base is a little loud and I need to figure how to control the boom. You need to be patient with the DVD. What a look on my wall and no visible wires. Also the SAMSUNG customer service was very patient in helping me to understand the combination of TV and Sound Bar. Thanks Amazon. You saved me $500 dollars.

5 Stars home theatre
oustanding unit when we paired it with our samsung 50″ plasma 1080p wireless. very good sound quality and many options on the types of output so you can customize the sound to your liking.

1 Star Design Flaw and No Customer Service
This item has a design flaw, a very delicate plastic sliding cover over the DVD port that breaks very easily. Item broke after only a few months and when I tried to contact Samsung to have the unit repaired under warranty they refused, saying the break was the result of my negligence. They do not have home repair or local service, and insisted I ship the item for service. I took the item back where I bought it and the plastic cover on their floor model was also broken. Brandsmart refunded my purchase price, meanwhile I am still waiting on a call back from Samsung “case study”. Samsung has the worst customer service I’ve ever seen in my life. I would highly recommend buying another unit. This one is flawed and if/when it breaks Samsung absolutely will not stand behind their product.

5 Stars Works Great!
I have this hooked up in my media room to my 72″ DLP from Samsung and the sound is perfect for the room. It is very easy to set up and it works great.

OP TECH 37012 Pro Loop Strap for Camera Equipment Black

OP TECH 37012 Pro Loop Strap for Camera Equipment Black

The PRO LOOP STRAP combines all the same features of the PRO STRAP with a unique connection system for especially tight connection points. The strap loops through the connection area to form a slip knot which “falls” away freely from the camera when in use. This easy-to-attach connection system is a great alternative to OP/TECH USA’s patented connector. A simple and extremely secure system you can trust!

5 Stars my neck feels a lot better
I bought this items upon recommendations from a friend, and I’m very grateful for the advise:)

I carry a 18-200, 10-20mm, and a BIG 100-400 IS lens, and my neck feels a lot better now.

5 Stars A comfortable strap for the “ready position”.
This strap is on my Canon 50D with battery pack, it is quite heavy. The strap has kind of a slight suspension system to its design along with a quick release system. It is very comfortable and if you ever wished your strap was not on your camera you will appreciate the strap clips.

The shortest length places the camera in a nice ready position on the center of my upper torso. I keep this strap at that length. At full length you can sling it over your shoulder but it does not feel as secure. I use a “quick access” camera bag for long hikes. Review a Lowepro Fastpack.

I also use a hand strap. This strap allows you to quickly go from “neck to hand strap mode”. In fact, many times I simply have them both on the camera. But, I really know my camera and can deal with a bit of clutter. I like this strap.

5 Stars Excellent!
Great camera strap. Very comfortable and easy to disconnect and connect. I like the fact that the shoulder strap portion of the strap can be removed and it can then be used as a wrist strap. Excellent workmanship!

4 Stars Very comfortable strap!
This OP/TECH strap is a great alternative the the straps normally included with cameras. It distributes the weight evenly and is very comfortable. More than worth the price.

4 Stars Good, solid strap
I’ve owned this strap for about 2 weeks and I couldn’t be happier. As the description says it makes the camera feel 50% lighter. My “everyday” body and lens comes in around 5 pounds, and this was a remarkable improvement. I used the same body and lens for a trip to Yosemite using the strap that came with the camera and my neck was sore for a day or two afterwords. After a recent trip to the Grand Canyon with this strap I have no soreness to speak of. I would order this strap again and I would recommend it to someone who was looking for a new or different one.
