User Ratings and Reviews

2 Stars Review of an XBOX 360 owner.
I am very dissapointed with the PS3 purchase. The fan is VERY loud when your watching movies, playing games, basically anytime. I thought the xbox 360 had a loud fan but the PS3 is louder and its VERY distracting. I purchased a full 1080p television to get the most out of the PS3. Afterall, Sony talked and talked about 1080p and how it is the future. Howerever if you look at the majority of games, very few of them are in full 1080p. This is not the case with XBOX 360 games where its just about impossible to find a game NOT in 1080p. Check the back of the games to see.

The unit is very big, bulky and heavy. Online is a total joke on PS3. It’s too late in the game for Sony to catch up with Microsoft here. XBOX live is so smooth, mostly lag free and you truly FEEL like you are part of an online community. Its so easy to meet friends, and keep in touch with them by either messaging, voice or video chat. Sony just has this clunky afterthought for their online service.

I am not by any means a “fanboy” as they are called. I just want to put my two cents out there for people who are looking to invest the money in this system.

5 Stars Great system
Best way to go about getting a Blu-Ray player. It provides for hours of fun in gaming, and the movies are incredible. I would recommend this system to anyone. As an aside, I don’t think the 160GB version is a better buy, even if it comes with a game. Hard drives are very inexpensive, and if drive space is a concern, you can certainly upgrade for less money. Plus you’re not stuck with a game you may not want.

3 Stars lots of memory, great graphics
It’s what a PS3 should be & has lots of great features, but wish it came equipped with ps2 game compatibility. Also, don’t care for all the system updates that take a long time to download & poor internet connection.

5 Stars PS3 – Best gaming console ever made
Pros:

Easy setup.

Blue Ray player.

Graphics / Display is at some god level.

MGS4 , Resistance 1 and 2 , Drake.

PSP and PS3 compatibility.

Cons:

Can’t think of anything other than the slightly higher power consumption.

Here is the take on the gaming consoles.

Wii – Good for ladies and non-gamers.

Xbox – Go to a friends place to play Gears of War. (Other than Gears of War. It is a piece of cheap h/w not worth the money)

PS3 – Not only does it have the best hardware in class. Some of the best games ever made on this planet. MGS4 and Drake are available only for the PS3. Add to that the Blu Ray player.

For any serious gamer MGS should be a reason to own the PS3.

5 Stars History will repeat itself
Uhhh if anyone has owned a PS in the past you know its only a matter of time before your PS3 takes a massive peanutty dump on your entertainment center. Just another worthless POS collecting dust in your workroom. I think I will invest in microsoft. Thank you

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Great TV
I got this TV for $1500 shipped from an online retailer. I have owned it for a few months and love it. I am very happy I read other reviews before deciding to go with this TV with the matte screen over the Samsung LN52A650 or Sony KDL52W4100. I have 3 large windows (west side of house) in the same room as the TV (facing south) and love that there is no bad glare with this set. I feel that if I would have gotten the ln52a650 the glare from these windows would have been a big disappointment. I have this hooked up to my PS3 and the Panasonic SC-HT56 5.1 surround sound system. I am really enjoying this setup.

5 Stars wonderful television
Great television, delivered when expected. Found a nice website that told us how to configure the many options. After much research, on-line and local, Amazon had the best price.

5 Stars Samsung LN52A630 120Hz
My 62″ DLP TV went out on me for the second time. The first time, i had it repaired for about $400. So, when i noticed that it was on the fritz again. I started to look at what was out on the market. I wanted the biggest LCD i could afford. During my search i found one model to be atop all of the reviews. That was the Samsung LN52A650.

For months I searched and read everything i could find. The LN52A650 was the one to get and was a clear winner in every category, according to everyone elses’ reviews. One day I stumbled onto the 630.

A few days later, i found Amazon. The prices for both models would fluctuate daily, so i waited for the price to come down.

A couple weeks later I bought the 630. I love it. I don’t have anything to say but, its great. Physically, it is missing the fourth HDMI input and some 10,000:1 contrast. Whatever that means.

I am sure if I had the 650, i would say the same thing. Whichever of the ones you get, I am sure you will be happy.

5 Stars Couldn’t be happier!
Went back and forth between Samsung and Sony and then between this model and the 650. Chose this because of Matte finish. More than pleased with picture quality and aesthetics of the set. Easy delivery and setup, price was great (about 400 less than 2009 model). Very highly recommended.

5 Stars Great buy
Checked all the reviews, got a great price from amazon. Have tv for a month now, no problems great picture. Recommend buying!

HDMI places incredible performance demands on your digital A/V connections. It requires a truly high-bandwidth cable that can deliver enormous amounts of digital data without bit-error and signal degradation. Monster has created the Advanced HDMI 1000HD Ultra-High Speed Cable for those who demand the best in high definition home theater–both now and in the future. This cable is ideal for larger HDTVs, advanced projectors, and high definition AV sources. Monster designs the most advanced HDMI cables and certifies their performance for future generations of products. If the performance capabilities of this cable are ever exceeded by future generations of HDMI, Monster will replace this cable at no charge–see product packaging for further details.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Works
I purchased this cable as “refurbished”. Exactly the same as the ones in the stores..only way cheaper. I have three different brands of HDMI cables on my HT equip. and really can’t notice too much of a difference between any of them.

4 Stars Good Cables
This purchase really depends on the person. If your an audiophile, get the industry standard Monster. If your just an everyday kind of guy or gal then maybe make another choice.

3 Stars It works
Bought is at Amazon and have been satisfied with it, does it’s job, no problems with the product or delivery.

2 Stars Not worth the price
These cables do what they are supposed to, but there are way to many lower cost alternatives.

1 Star Please…
The premise of all Monster cable products is based on the well-known axiom that there is a sucker born every minute. Or at least, that’s how I see it, since Monster could not possibly charge the prices they do and stay in business if it were not for the existence of gullible people with lots of money who willingly buy into the hype without doing so much as basic research.

I bought a generic 10FT HDMI cable to run from an OPPO DV-983H to a Samsung LNT4069FX 40″. It works flawlessly, cost me about twenty dollars and supports the 1.3a standard. Need I say more?

1 Star Not really good sdhc compare to other brand
I have bought 3 of these when it was so cheap around $3.25ish (shipping included) I was basically fooled by the low price. The product came on time with nicely packaged. I used fine for about 3 months. Techinically used about 4~5 times. And my camera is able to read it but it cannot read from my computer. I tried testing on different computers, but still doesn’t work. So I would definately say it’s defect (2 unopened). I actually read lot of reviews sandisk vs transcend before buying. But in the end it was like this. Even though return policy of the store I bought from is 30 days, they gave me full refund on all 3 since the cost of sending to transcend company to re-issue new ones will out price the cost of the card. I guess I’m going to stick with sandisks from now on. They never failed me with CF on my Canon EOS.

5 Stars great product great price
16GB has alot of memory. I bought this product because in the stores you pay alot more for less memory. I bought 2 this time because the price was so good. $32. ea. I have an HD camcorder and this card works really well. My father also buys the brand. Its great.

5 Stars So far so good
I have had this card for about three weeks now and use it in my Canon SD800, so far the speed and the picture quality is very good. I used to have 2GB regular (SD) Kingston, class 6 makes alot of difference in speed ot load and download.

5 Stars huge!
I’m happy with my purchase. This memory card gives me and hour of recording time on my camera. (: Now I have to buy another battery…lol

4 Stars Great little card
I got this as an accessory for my gf’s Canon digital cam. This can literally store thousands of pictures at the max setting. She’s been able to record long video clips (>30mins) as well. Unbelievable how much storage you get for the price. As an added bonus, because her laptop has an integrated card reader she uses it as backup drive to store all the things she’s currently working on.

Very Poor.

4 Stars Good Mouse
The mouse works fine it feels good in my hand. The range isn’t very far just three feet so it works best for a notebook you keep close to you (like on your lap). It’s just what I need and I like it very much.

This mouse is light weight and fits my hand perfectly. The design lets you store the usb adapter to the mouse when not in use. This saves mouse battery. This is a great mouse to use with desktop or laptop. Wish I would have found this mouse much earlier. I would have purchased an extra one for my desktop too. This is a value at the price and a pleasure to use.

5 Stars Microsoft Wireless Mouse
Purchased this mouse for my new ACER netbook. It is excellant.Easy to carry with the small netbook and works like a charm. The finger pad is a little small on the netbook thus my fingers seem to always be hitting an extra button. With the mouse this does not happen. Great product.

5 Stars works good
works good and when you stow the dongle in the mouse it turns off the mouse so I have’nt had to put batteries in it yet I got it for my wife for mothers day and she loves it.

Sound makes up quite a bit of the home-theater experience when matched with your HDTV. Onkyo’s HT-S6100 helps make that match-up really easy. With an HDMI platform as good as it gets (integrating up to four sources), you have every reason to be impressed.
User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Outstanding performance.
The system works great. You get crystal clear sound. I conected my PS3 to it and it sounds great. It gives you a great gaming experience. I don`t think it`s possible to get something better for this kind of money.

Blu-ray movies sound awesome.

4 Stars First HT system
I found the HT-S6100 to work well with crisp sound and ample bass. I doubt there are many better HTiB and none better at this price range.

If you are comparing this to the S7100, know you only get Onkyo branded speaker stands and added i-pod functionality. If these extra features are important to you than get the S7100, otherwise stick with the S6100.

I connected the speakers with 16 gauge the wires right out of the box per the suggestion of many HT forums , so I don’t know how well the system will sound with factory wire.

The auto set up needs tweaking to get it to sound right, though it provided a good starting point.

The universal remote works best when it is all HDMI in (HDMI out to TV is assumed). It is fine for non-HDMI connected sources though more button pushes are required.

There appears to be no loss in video quality through the receiver, except with the cable company’s HD cable box. The cable picture was slightly darker and slightly blurred in movement. Xbox 360 & PS3 work perfectly with the receiver.

4 Stars Outstanding value despite a few little quirks
I’ve had my HT-S6100 installed for a couple of months now. I acquired it in March 2009 for $five forty nine shipped from N e w E g g. It arrived amazingly quickly via UPS, in perfect condition in the product packaging box.

Overall I’m very happy with this system and would consider it an outstanding value. With a good HD 5.1 or 7.1 channel signal, it sounds awesome. For stereo music listening it can sound a bit barky and it doesn’t have a lot of punch, but on the whole it’s not bad. For home theater, it’s worth much more than I paid for it.

As other reviewers have noted, it does have a few quirks. Here are some observations I didn’t see in other reviews:

1) The gain level of the receiver’s subwoofer setting affects the peak volume of the receiver. I suspect this is to prevent you from blowing out your sub by cranking the volume, but it’s kind of annoying. If you have the volume knob turned low on the subwoofer and calibrate the receiver using the Audyssey system, it will boost the subwoofer and compensate by putting a low ceiling on your overall system volume.

2) On a related note, the volume maxes out at a numerically peculiar “79.” Why not 100? I don’t get it. Likewise the gain settings on the separate channels go to 12. Why not 10? It reminds me of Nigel on Spinal Tap: “These go to 11.”

3) It would be nice if it had a couple more analog RCA a/v inputs. If you have more than one gaming system you’ll be scratching your head to figure out where to hook them up. I run the Wii through the front AUX connectors for lack of a better choice on the back. That means I always have cords running around the front of the receiver, which is kind of stupid.

4) The plethora of listening modes (Dolby D, DTS, True-HD, PlxII, etc.) is pretty confusing. Sometimes the receiver seems to select a setting based on the input signal, and other times it doesn’t. I guess I need to read up again to understand what it’s doing, but it seems a bit mystifying.

5) The iPod dock will only accommodate certain generations of the iPod. I don’t own an iPod so this isn’t important to me right now. I wish, however, that it provided a mini-plug jack on the iPod dock so I could plug in my MP3 player. Instead you have to use the AUX input, displacing whatever else you might’ve plugged in there.

That’s my 2 cents. I’d definitely buy the HT-S6100 again and I think it hits the sweet spot in Onkyo’s home-theater line — a nice-sounding, reasonably powerful receiver with a lot of bells and whistles, plus 8 decent speakers, for less than six Franklins. Really can’t be beat!

5 Stars It Rocks
Ok well first thing it took me about 12 hours to runn the wire and hook it up but I am a little OCD lol. Got it hooked up and wow. Called a buddy to come listen that has a bose system that he paid well over three times for and he is selling it after he heard this system. The down firing bass box makes it so the base is sounds if its coming from everywhere and is plenty of bass. Awsome system and I researched for six months before I bought and I am very immpressed.

5 Stars Onkyo Rocks
Really great unit for the money. Only need one cable to go to my flatscreen.

Easy to set up. Great sound. Wish the brackets allowed the speakers to be mounted horizontally.

Great value for the money. If you are setting this up under your TV it is very easy. If the unit is off to one side (as mine is) you’ll need speaker wire. I would replace it anyway as the wire they gave is rather thin. But they are color coded so it is a snap to install.

Overall I recommend this to everyone. You’d easily spend twice as much for other competitive units and not get all the functionality. The 4 HDMI ins are great for my DVR, Wii, DVD player. The ipod dock is very handy.

5 Stars Awesome
I just bought this system last week to replace a Samsung system that “died” on me. I’m already very impressed. I like the preset equalizer settings as it makes it easier for me to switch from one to another depending on what I’m watching. I was also able to hook it up to my cable box/DVR to get 5.1 sound while I watch regular TV. I like the “Night” setting as it keeps the dialog hearable but the music/sound effects don’t overpower while watching movies at night. I’ve had my upstairs neighbor come down and ask me to turn the volume down on my old system because it made the walls vibrate when watching a loud action movie like Dark Knight or Pirates of the Carribbean.

I only have 2 minor complaints.

1. The rear speaker wires are too short. For the left rear speaker, I had to let the wire sit across my living room floor. Luckily I have a rug that covers part of it.

2. I’m hearing impaired and the DVD player is supposed to be able to read closed-captioning on discs, but for some reason it isn’t even though I turned that feature on in the setup/options menu. Luckily most DVDs now have English subtitles, but some older ones only have regular closed-captioning like on TV.

Other than that, I am really happy with this system. It even comes with a separate dock for your iPod (works with just about every iPod model out there).

1 Star It was good…while it lasted
I purchased this home theater system from a local retailer…exactly one month ago from the date of this review.

It had fantastic sound, it really did….if what you wanted was loud with lots of bass at all times. Despite the fact that Phillips insisted that it “should” it would not work well with the sound being on on the TV at all. There was a horrible echo if the volume on the tv was not all the way off. This system was great for loud movies, but forget watching a movie at night with anyone sleeping anywhere near by. It would have been great if we could have adjusted the sound to the tv correctly with this. Brand new Phillips TV and brand new Phillips Home Theater System? One would assume they would have played nicely with each other. We had to constantly go into the settings and adjust the balance (which could not be done with a disk in for some odd reason) per usage situation.

I loved the Ipod dock…three weeks ago I bought an Ipod specifically for this since my other mp3 player obviously would be incompatible. Hooked up with HDMI cables, the picture was fantastic. The controls were easy to use (I’ve met some evil DVD player remotes in my day) and all and all I was 100% happy with it.

Then….after owning it less than a month and under less than normal useage…it just suddenly stopped reading the dvds.

I will say that Phillips does have excellent customer service in my experience…just make sure you register this if you buy it. However, in our case we wound up returning this to the retailer and purchasing a Sony Bravia system instead. I’d recommend the Bravia units over this if you are wanting an Ipod dock. The Bravia charges the Ipod and you can also view song information on the tv with certain systems…something this Philips does not offer.

—-

In response to another review- you can actually manually adjust the sound levels. However, you have to exit your movie (etc), and then eject the disk before you do so. I still am amazed by how odd and totally unrealistic it is to have to go through this to adjust sound….because when you can’t hear it playing you usually have to readjust a few more times.

5 Stars Great Value
I read numerous reviews before purchasing this item, and I am very pleased with the quality (as usual for Philips) and the sound it produces. The fact that there’s no manual sound equalization is a minus, but one you can easily live with. Otherwise the system performs very well and to expectation. The item was new as promised and shipping very fast (standard shipping); the response on my questions were very speedy. Definitely recommend both product and seller.

4 Stars Nice Sound
I must admit to not being too tech savy about surround sound or home theater. I just wanted some nice sound to work with my 42″ Vizio. After reading online reviews, I took a stab with this system, and I’m perfectly pleased. My viewing area does not lend itself to the perfect speaker layout, but I nonetheless was able to get a decent setup. All in all I like the sound. Additionally I like that I can just play CD’s on it without turning on the TV. Overall, I’m satisfied with the value I got for my dollar. PS: It was incredibly easy to set up.

5 Stars Excellent product for the price
Do not expect it to give you a $1000 quality. But for the price it comes at, this product is just amazing. The installation was easy and sound quality is extremely nice. For less than $200, you certainly cannot ask for more. So, the bottomline is, if you do not want to spend $600 or $700 or more, then simply go for this. This will give you the same quality as a Sony or Panasonic which would cost you more than $300. And you get the additional advantange of a direct USB connection. Highly recommended.

Thank you
